Art 193 Online: Motion Picture Editing


This course is not just a "How To" class for learning a piece of software. Editing is an art form and software is a tool that enables you to express yourself as an artist.

 

To truly understand motion picture editing you need to know the history, dramatic techniques, and psychology that are all part of moving an audience emotionally through editing. In this course we will explore many facets of visual storytelling and study industry techniques that help make students thoughtful film editors and not just "button pushers."

Art 193 is an Online course that does not meet physically. Students will submit work through Canvas Assignments on the due dates throughout the course.

There is no required textbook for you to buy. You will receive all of the course lesson materials online through Canvas.

We will be using industry standard editing and color grading software that is available free of charge for Mac or PC.

You will need a fairly current computer (Mac or PC) to run the software on and enough hard drive space to complete the lessons. Details can be found here.

When you need assistance with any lesson I will be available through email.

As you continue your progress on your modules, do not forget to backup your work constantly on Google Drive.

Always visit this website on a weekly basis to ensure you do not fall behind or miss information. You should reasonably expect as much as 6 hours of work per week each week.
