Course Purpose: To explore the image processing and manipulation techniques of digital photography and computer-aided graphic design using Adobe Photoshop.
Coursework: Coursework will consist of 3 creative projects and Weekly Assignments. Refer to the “Assignments” page of this website for all due dates. Also, there are 10 short quizzes.
SUBMISSION OF STUDENT WORK: Students may only submit work via DIGITAL UPLOAD on Canvas. You may not submit work by sharing your own custom folder.
Turning in a project late may result in a reduction of one full grade from that project. Turning in a project one day late will reduce the grade the same amount as a project turned in one week late. No projects will be accepted past the second week a project is due. It is then a Failed project. No projects will be accepted past the final day of the course.
NO USB DRIVES or EMAILED work can be accepted without direct permission. Any work submitted through Email or USB devices without permission will not be looked at and a grade of “F” will be issued for that work.
You will save projects to your Google Drive account and to your local hard drive. It is always wise to have multiple backups.
Requirements for Online Learning: All students must have basic computer skills and most certainly be comfortable typing, using a mouse, using and remembering passwords, connecting to the internet, using e-mail, and using a web browser.
Course Meetings: Art 192 will function as an Online Course. There will be no physical meetings.
MANDATORY ORIENTATION: Every student must watch the Orientation Video located on the homepage of the course website. Every student must complete the Online Quiz about the Orientation Video in order to take the course.
MIDTERM DEADLINE: The Assignments page will list the midterm due date, and the due date for the Midterm work. This usually occurs around mid-semester.
IF NO WORK IS SUBMITTED BY THIS DATE OR IF YOU SUBMIT WORK FROM THE WRONG DOWNLOAD, YOU MAY BE DROPPED FROM THE COURSE IMMEDIATELY.
NEVER ASSUME YOU WILL BE DROPPED FROM THIS COURSE. EVEN IF I TELL YOU IN WRITING THAT I WILL DROP YOU FROM THE COURSE, IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO CHECK YOUR MY CERRITOS ACCOUNT TO SEE IF YOU HAVE BEEN DROPPED.
IF YOU ARE NOT DROPPED FROM THE COURSE BY THE FINAL DAY CERRITOS COLLEGE ALLOWS IT, YOU WILL RECEIVE A GRADE OF “F” OR “FW” FOR FAILING TO TURN IN WORK.
ALWAYS CHECK YOUR "MY CERRITOS" ACCOUNT THROUGHOUT THE SEMESTER.
Withdrawing from a Course at Cerritos College: Pursuant to Title 5, section 58004 and Cerritos College Board Policy 4104, it is the student's responsibility to participate fully in class(es) once enrollment is complete. However, should it become necessary to withdraw from class, it is the student's responsibility to present a signed drop card to the Admissions and Records Office. Getting Help: You should feel free to contact me via email for any reason should you need help regarding this course. If you would like to meet always email me first so we can set up a Zoom meeting.
Technical Support Please contact me early in the week if you do not understand the instructions. Do not wait until the day an assignment is due to work on the assignment. If you have problems then, I will not be able to help you. Remember, late assignments, for whatever reason, will be considered late.
Academic Honesty/Dishonesty Policy Academic Dishonesty is dealt with as an academic action by the instructor and influences the student's grade. Academic Dishonesty is defined as the act of obtaining or attempting to obtain credit for work by the use of any dishonest, deceptive, or fraudulent means. If you turn in another person’s creative work as your own you are committing plagiarism.
If you commit plagiarism, you will fail the course.
Due to the nature of this course, you will most likely use photographs other than your own. This is expected and does not violate copyright laws provided your content is used strictly within the confines of this course. You may not sell or display your work publicly if you use copyrighted material without the expressed written consent of the owner. The work you submit will be displayed solely for the internal use of this course. Every time you submit a creative project, clearly indicate the source of your photographs.

Coursework & Homework Assuming you work every week and do not get behind, you can reasonably expect to spend up to 5 hours total per week (Summer and Fall Semesters) completing your classwork and homework, so you should consider spacing out your work times to prevent overloading yourself.
You are responsible for keeping copies of all work and all emails (both sent and received) in connection with this course until the course is complete. Computer viruses and other breakdowns are a normal part of computer activity and you should always back up your work.
